| CIA Thwarts Al Qaedia Bomb Plot |

The CIA foiled an Al Qaeda plot to blow up a US bound jetliner using a new sophisticated explosive. The Associated Press is reporting Al Qaeda's affiliate in Yemen planned to destroy a jetliner around the one-year anniversary of the execution of Osama bin Laden.
The Al Qaeda attack planned to use an improved version of the underwear bomb that failed to detonate aboard a jetliner on Christmas 2009. U.S. officials say the upgraded underwear bomb is said to have used an improved detonation system.
The FBI and other officials are examining the new bomb to determine if it would have been detected by airport security, and if it would have been powerful enough to bring down a commercial airliner.
Not wanting to a practical field test, the CIA arrested the would-be bomber and seized the bomb before the suspect picked his intended target.
Amazingly, the operation in Yemen unfolded almost simultaneously as White House officials and Homeland Security were reassuring Americans they knew of no planned attacks against the United States at or surrounding the time of the one year anniversary of bin Laden's death.
The AP learned about the thwarted plot last week but agreed to White House and CIA requests not to publish it immediately because the sensitive intelligence operation was still under way. Once officials said those concerns were allayed, the AP decided to disclose the plot Monday despite requests from the Obama administration to wait for an official announcement Tuesday.
