The Department of Justice today wasting no time in responding to the House vote to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress.
Justice Department says in letter obtained by Fox News it won't prosecute Attorney General Eric Holder after the GOP-led House voted to hold him in criminal contempt of Congress.
That response is to the criminal contempt charge that passed the House on Thursday, 255 to 67.
Anticipating the response, the House also voted 258 to 95 to holder the Attorney General in civil contempt. The difference being that lawyers can petition the court to compel the DOJ to turn over documents, that are currently being protected by President Obama's assertion of executive privilege.
However, appearing on Lou Dobbs Tonight, Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) admitted that event those efforts are unlikely to produce the sought after documents prior to the November elections.
With no resolution to the situation in sight, some are beginning to wonder whether or not Holder is becoming an albatross to the Obama administration.
Holder over the past three-and-a-half years has become, according to one polling outfit, the most unpopular member of Obama's Cabinet. The attorney general is associated with a string of controversial decisions -- from his response to the Fast and Furious probe to his department's suits against state immigration laws to the campaign to halt GOP-led voter ID laws in Florida and elsewhere -- that have riled conservatives, even some Democrats. |
