Negotiations between Iran and international powers over the country's nuclear program this weekend are facing fire from Israel and American lawmakers, fearing Tehran is just using the talks to forestall economic sanctions while continuing to advance and conceal its nuclear program.
U.S. lawmakers are pledging to new economic sanctions on Tehran if it doesn't immediately abide by United Nations resolutions, calling for it to halt its production of nuclear fuel.
Israeli Premier Benjamin Netanyahu, who has been warning the west that it may take military action to prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear power said "Iran has been given a freebie."
"It has got five weeks to continue enrichment without any limitation, any inhibition. I think Iran should take immediate steps to stop all enrichment, take out all enrichment material and dismantle the nuclear facility in Qom," Netanyahu said over the weekend.
Those comments prompting President Obama to respond during his trip to South America, "the notion that somehow we've given something away or a 'freebie' would indicate Iran has gotten something."
"In fact, they've got some of the toughest sanctions that they're going to be facing coming up in just a few months if they don't take advantage of these talks," Obama said on Sunday at the close of a Latin American summit in Colombia.
