Democrats are banking on seniors being more afraid of Paul Ryan's budget plan and its impact on Medicare than they are of President Obama's health care overall. They better think again!
A new Rasmussen Reports poll shows that when it comes to Medicare, Florida seniors actually favor Ryan's plan over Obama's Affordable Care Act.
The poll of 500 likely Florida voters asked which plan "scares" them more.
Forty-eight percent chose the President's ACA health care law. Forty-one percent chose Ryan's plan.
11 percent of respondents weren't sure which plan they feared most.
That indecision is why the campaigns are battling over allegations that the president's plan robs Medicare of $716 billion. Those assertions made by the Republicans who claim they're not going to robe the entitlement program, rather alter it for those who are under age 55 in order to insure it is around to serve future generations.
Ryan is the author of the controversial budget plan that would, 10 years from now, give seniors the option of using a government payment to buy private insurance. Obama's campaign says the plan would "end Medicare as we know it."
But Ryan and Mitt Romney are firing back, claiming that "ObamaCare" is the one that guts Medicare by "raiding" the entitlement to pay for the health care law. Ryan repeated that line in Ohio today, saying Obama "raided $716 billion from Medicare to pay for Obamacare. This will lead to fewer services for seniors."
The Rasmussen poll results were within the margin of error. The poll from Aug. 15 had a margin of error of 4.5 percentage points.
The poll also asked Floridians whether they prefer Obama or Romney. The results were roughly even, with 45 percent choosing Romney and 43 percent choosing Obama.
While much too close to offer any insight as to who will win the presidential race, the poll results are an almost certain indicator that the two tickets will ramp up their campaign stops in Florida over the 84-days. |
