The Senate took its turn Wednesday at getting to the bottom of the Government Services Administration scandal. But unlike previous hearings, senators focused on additional investigation and more oversight rather than demanding answers from the agency officials.
Agency Inspector General Brian Miller -- whose investigation of an $823,000 Las Vegas conference uncovered a slew of other questionable GSA expenditures -- said hotline tips are triggering new investigations.
Acting GSA Administrator Dan Tagerhlini said he also received a lot of information from employees through social media and an intra-agency email service.
Both He and Miller were urged to eliminate the spending abuses and terminate those involved. They were also asked whether the problems appear limited to the agency's Western regions.
"We are continuing ongoing investigations.," Miller said. "And every time we turn over a proverbial stone, we find 50 more and we find things crawling out from under them."
And now it turns out that the wife of Jeffrey Neely, the organizer of the $823,000 Las Vegas conference, had her own parking spot at the GSA. And this is significant, because the reserved parking space is defined as a "taxable benefit."
