The Obama administration, as reported by PR Week has inked a pricey little contract with a PR firm. The intent, sell the American people on the merits of the "Affordable Care Act." Ironically, the Supreme Court's decision on the elements of the President's signature peace of legislation may make the contract null and void.
According to the report, HHS's Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services awarded a $20 million contract to PR firm Porter Novelli. The international PR firm boasts a health client list, including PepsiCo, Hewlett Packard, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
According to The Hill, the campaign was mandated by the Affordable Care Act and must describe the importance of prevention while also explaining preventive benefits provided by the healthcare law.
"The campaign will inform the American people about the many preventive benefits now available to those with Medicare, Medicaid, and private health insurance as a result of the Affordable Care Act," a representative from the Department of Health & Human Services said.
The PR campaign is a part of the administration's effort to build public support for the law that became the focal point of heated debate during Supreme Court hearings back in March. The Justices are expected to hand down their ruling on the law as early as this week, but more likely sometime in June. |
