The Republican primary contests Tuesday in Wisconsin, Maryland and the District of Columbia -- which Romney could feasibly sweep -- will give Romney enough delegates to cross the halfway point toward the 1,144 needed to clinch the nomination.
That inevitable fact will leave his challengers in a precarious situation; wait until the end of the month to challenge him in the next series of contests or end their individual races and move to build solidarity around the former Massachusetts governor.
Many in the media say that a prolonged race between Romney and his nearest challenger Rick Santorum will hurt the Republican brand. But those pundits are forgetting the race between Clinton and Obama was much closer at this stage.
