Weak Kiss-in Protests At Chick-fil-A
Aug-03-2012
Keywords: kiss in, protest, chick-fil-a, huckabee, gay marriage
Weak Kiss-in Protests At Chick-fil-A Gay rights organizations and other advocacy groups promoted a "National Same-Sex Kiss Day" on Friday encouraging people to go to Chick-fil-A restaurants and lock lips with a member of the same sex to protest the fast-food chain owners' opposition to same-sex unions.

Today's kissing crusade against the chicken chain comes just days after thousands of Americans flocked to local franchises for "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day." Support for the chicken restaurant was so feverish, the chain claims that sales on Wednesday reached unprecedented levels.

As for the kiss-in protests, reports from restaurants around the country showed the number of protesters was low compared to the hundreds of people from around the country who turned out Wednesday.

Meanwhile, police were investigating graffiti at a Chick-fil-A restaurant in Southern California. The graffiti on the side of a restaurant in Torrance said "Tastes like hate" and had a picture of a cow. No one has been arrested.

The flap began last month when Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy told a religious publication that the company backed "the biblical definition of a family."

The statement infuriated gay marriage supporters, who planned the so-called kiss-in protests. To counter that demonstration, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, a Baptist minister and Fox News talk show host, declared Wednesday a Chick-fil-A appreciation day.

The Cathy family has never hid its Southern Baptist faith, even closing its restaurants on Sundays.
