The battle to strip public employee unions of their rights to collective bargain handed a blow by a Wisconsin judge late Friday afternoon.
A Wisconsin judge struck down the state law pushed through by Gov. Scott Walker that effectively stripped most public workers of their collective bargaining rights.
The Associated Press is reporting that, "Dane County Circuit Judge Juan Colas ruled Friday that the law violates both the state and U.S. Constitution and is null and void."
The ruling comes after Madison teacher union and a union of Milwaukee city employees challenged Walker's legislation seen as a blow to public employee unions across the country.
Cullen Werwie, a spokesman for Gov. Walker told the Associated Press he's confident the decision will be appealed and overturned.
What is not clear according to reports is whether or not the law is "immediately suspended" and if so, what bargaining powers public employee unions will have in the interim. |
